Why don't I get the option of seat selection when I try to book?

For some performances you can choose your seats for the whole auditorium, whilst for others, only certain sections of the screen can be selected by seat.

When you select a section of seating, it will either display individual seats where you can drag and drop your booking onto the seating plan or it will advise you that the section is unreserved and you cannot reserve specific seats. If your booking is for an unreserved section, you can still choose your seats when you enter the auditorium before the start of the film.

Can I book via other means than online (eg via telephone)?

ODEON realise that it's not always convenient to book online. We have the widest range of methods of booking in the UK cinema industry, so you can quickly and easily book your cinema tickets. You can use any of the following ways;

  • Using our fast and efficient Filmline on 0871 22 44 007 (Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras)

  • In person at our cinema box office (during normal box office hours) or using one of the ATMs

  • Our iPhone or Android apps

How do I know if my booking is confirmed?

At the end of your booking a page will display to provide a confirmation number. Please keep a note of this number, as you will need to bring it along with your card you used to pay when collecting your tickets at the cinema. You will also receive an email to confirm your booking within 30 minutes. If the confirmation page does not display, you should check your email system to see if you have been sent the confirmation email. If you wish to double check, please contact our Internet Helpdesk on 0871 224 1999  (Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras), where you can use our automated check my booking facility, or if you wish to speak to a live operator, they are available between 11am and 8pm.

arrow Back to top

Once I have booked tickets online, how do I collect them?

You can collect your tickets from the Box Office or from the Automatic Ticket Machines in the foyer unless otherwise advised in your Booking Confirmation email.

You must remember to bring the card used during the booking process as this will be required to locate and issue your booking. At some cinemas you will be able use our "e-ticketing" functionality - if this is available it will be detailed in your Booking Confirmation email.

Please ensure that you arrive well in advance of the performance. If you arrive after the performance has started, admission may be refused to avoid distraction to the guests already seated in the cinema.

Please ensure you have any ID required for proof of age or eligibility for discounts ready when you go into the screen as this may be requested at the ticket check point and entry may be refused at the screen if valid I.D. is not produced when requested.

I have made a mistake with my booking - what should I do?

If you have not yet completed your booking (i.e. you have not yet been given a confirmation number or received your confirmation email) you can just close your browser window and start again.

However, if you have been given the confirmation number, your credit/debit card will have already been processed by Bookit Ltd and you should contact our Internet Helpdesk on 0871 224 1999 between 11am and 8pm (Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras).

arrow Back to top

Can I add extra seats to an existing booking?

If you were given specific row/seat numbers for your original booking please call our Internet Helpline on 0871 224 1999 (Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras) to receive advice on how best to proceed. However, if your original booking did not specify a specific seat/row then you can simply complete a second booking for the additional tickets, as you will be able to choose from all available seats when you enter the auditorium.

I want to book a ticket for a date that isn't displayed.

We sometimes have to wait until the film distribution companies fully confirm details about a film before we can put tickets on sale. As soon as we know the films and times they will be displayed on the website - usually this results in the tickets for next week appearing on the website on Tuesday evening or Wednesday afternoon.

Sometimes, due to public demand, tickets can go on sale a few weeks before their release date after agreement with the film distributors. To ensure you are informed about advance sales of key films, you can register with ODEON to receive promotional and weekly film times emails by clicking here.

Why are some films not shown at my local ODEON?

We would love to be able to show every film.  In certain situations we are unable to show some films due to reasons which are out of our direct control.  You can find if a film is showing at another ODEON cinema using the Film Finder option.  Film selections are changed weekly at each cinema.

For the types of ID accepted please see the entry "What forms of age related ID are acceptable" below. References to adult above do not have the same meaning as adult for the purposes of the mandatory conditions on the exhibition of films relating to the protection of children from harm as contained in the Licensing Act 2003.

arrow Back to top

What does the 12A certificate mean?

12A is a classification in the UK. It means that the BBFC have classified the film unsuitable for children under 12. However, they may still watch the film, as long as they are accompanied by someone over 18 at all times during the showing. Advice is given regarding the content of the film and the ADULT must decide if it is appropriate for the accompanying under 12. If you want more information about this or any other film certificates click here.

arrow Back to top

What forms of age related ID are acceptable?

ODEON can only allow admission to films in accordance with the certificate the film has been granted by the British Board of Film Classification and we are required to check the age of anyone who looks (or we believe may be) underage. If you look younger than the age required for a film you may be asked to provide some ID. We are unable to simply take someones word on their age or the age of someone in their party.

This ID must include a photo and ideally should be one of the following: Passport, Photo Driving Licence, Student Card/School Pass with Photo and DOB, ValidateUK card, PASS-Scheme card, Connexions Card, Prove-it Portman Card or Citizen Card.

arrow Back to top

What do you classify as a Student?

In our cinemas, a Student is classified as someone in full time education and holds a valid form of photo ID such as an NUS, NUS Associate, or ISIC card which clearly shows the period of validity.  You must have the ID available for presentation as requested at the cinema.

Please click here for details of how to apply for an ISIC card (this will open in a new window).

arrow Back to top

At what age does someone have to pay the adult ticket price?

All guests aged 18 and over will be charged the adult ticket price. Young adults between the ages of 13 and 17 can get the Teen rate. In addition, we also offer a student discount to adults aged 18 or over in full time education if they hold a valid form of ID such as NUS, NUS Associate, or ISIC (which must be presented at the Box Office to get the discount).

Except at BFI IMAX. Please click here to check ticket definitions at the BFI IMAX.

Can I take a baby into the cinema? Do I have to pay for them?

We try to accommodate babies as best we can, the majority of our cinemas will admit babies for U, PG or 12A films. We ask that you consider others when bringing your baby to the cinema, if he/she becomes distressed we request that you take them out of the auditorium. For babes in arms under 2 years of age there is no charge, however if the child takes up a seat you will be asked to pay for a child's ticket.

We also have ODEON Newbies at some of our cinemas, click here to see if your local cinema participates.

Do you show captioned films for the hard of hearing?

Whenever a film is released with captions for the hard of hearing we do try to schedule it at our cinemas. Captioned for hard of hearing and Audio Described performances are listed separately so you can choose these specific performances.

In addition, the "Your Local Cinema" website provides full listings of captioned performances at ODEON and other cinemas. Please click here to go to the Your Local Cinema website (opens in a new window).

arrow Back to top

What does Audio Described mean?

An Audio Described performance is a standard screening ideal for visually impaired people.  It works by playing a recorded narration, explaining what's happening on screen - during gaps in the dialogue - through personal headphones.
The normal film soundtrack comes through the cinemas surround sound speakers in the usual way, so Audio Description is undetectable to anyone else in the auditorium not using a headset.  Headsets are available on request at the cinema.

One of our party is hearing impaired.

Most of our screens have either an infra-red or hearing loop system. Please click here to check the facilities at your local ODEON or ABC.

Disabled guests and our booking process.

If you require a free carer to facilitate your visit to the cinema, ODEON participates in the CEA Card scheme where you can get a free ticket for your carer.  If you have a CEA Card, you can register your card within the "My Details" of your online profile and everytime you book, our website will automatically ask you if you need the free carer ticket.

If I am running late for the film will my seat be held?

Once your purchase has been confirmed, your seats are held for you until the start of the performance time as published, and will not be sold to another guest. Therefore, payment is required for all confirmed bookings, irrespective of whether the tickets are collected or not. Please note that on occasion entry will be delayed for late arrivals in order to minimise distractions to the already seated audience.
arrow Back to top

How much time do the adverts and trailers take up?

Normally the advertisements and trailers last for approximately 25 minutes which should be added on to the total running time of the film. Please note the BFI IMAX only have 5 minutes worth of trailers.

arrow Back to top

I'm having problems viewing the trailers on the ODEON homepage and the film synopsis pages.

To be able to view the trailers you need to have at least version 8 or above of ADOBE FLASH PLAYER installed on your PC. To find your current version, simply right click on the trailer on the ODEON homepage. You will then see an entry stating "About Flash Player X" where the X is the version number. If you can only see a photograph, or dont see the entry noted above then you need to install FLASH PLAYER.

You can download the latest version of FLASH for free by clicking here (opens in a new window).

I'm having problems with the automated Filmline service on 0871 22 44 007.

ODEON have one of the most advanced automated telephone service in the UK to give our guests quick access to information or to book tickets 24 hours a day. It uses Speech Recognition technology to speed-up the call, however there are certain situations where it is difficult for the system to recognise words short words. If you are trying to select a cinema by just saying the name of a very short town name, the system may experience difficulties. For example, if you are booking for Ayr saying "Ayr" may cause recognition problems, however just saying "ODEON Ayr" instead will result in success. Noisy environments: If there are problems with loud background noise, the system is designed so that users can change to a touch tone system just by pressing any key on their phone during a call. Alternatively saying "Operator" during the call will transfer you to an ODEON operator who will assist you further.

When and how can I use my voucher for free tickets?

We have a large number of different vouchers available, each has different terms and conditions, please check your voucher carefully for validity. At the present time you cannot use paper vouchers via the phone or online. In these instances bookings must be made in person at the cinema. The only exceptions are ODEON Guest Passes/Tickets, which can be used to book over the telephone (please see the reverse of the guest pass/ticket for details) There will always be a selection of films that your voucher can be used for, but please note that the use of vouchers may be restricted in the first few weeks of the release of a specific film - this is referred to as 'Free List Suspended' period. If you wish to check the FLS (free listed suspended films) listed films please click here. If you are unsure of the validity of your voucher for a specific film and/or time, please call the FilmLine on 0871 22 44 007 between 11am and 8pm (Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras). From the moment you open the star emblazoned doors of The Gallery you'll realise you're about to experience something very special. What is "Verified by Visa" & "Mastercard SecureCode"?

Can I take bulky items into the cinema auditoria?

As we always take the safety and security of our guests very seriously, we would need to carefully consider the hazard that the items may cause if there was a need to evacuate the cinema. If you are not able to take the items into the auditoria then, in certain cinemas, we may be able to store the items for you but this would be at your risk.

Changes include the lights being kept on at a low level, the sound is turned down and there are no trailers or advertisements - just the film.

All you need to do is either print off your booking confirmation or e-mail and bring it with you to the cinema, or be ready to display it on your phone. You show it to our staff at the guest service point so they can scan it and admit you to the screen. It's very easy, but you can still collect your tickets at the cinema box office or ATM if you prefer - just remember to take your card with you (see 3. below).

Just a few things to remember:

1. If you use a printout, make sure it's clear and legible. (If it's smudged, damaged, crumpled, or faint then we may not be able to use it.)

2. If your booking is for more than one person, you all need to be together when you present your QR code. (It covers the total booking and can only be scanned once.)

3. Please bring with you the Credit/Debit card you used to make your booking. If you weren't asked for a Credit/Debit card when booking - don't worry - just bring along the Electronic Gift Card or the ODEON Premiere Club Card you used. (If there is a problem scanning your QR code, your card enables you to collect from the box office or ATM in the traditional way.)

When can I use the e-ticket?

You can use the e-ticket whenever you have made a booking online for any of the available cinemas.

If you have booked more than one ticket and some members of your party do not intend to come to the cinema together, you will need to collect your individual tickets from the ATM or Box Office as the QR code can only be scanned once.

How do I print my e-ticket?

How to print your tickets will vary depending on which internet browser or email provider you use. You should use the same route you would normally use to print from your computer. This can normally be found under "file" in your email or web browser navigation. We recommend that you print a copy of the booking confirmation email we will send you. However if this is not possible, you can print off the booking confirmation page when making the booking online.

How do I display the e-ticket on my phone?

You can display the e-ticket on your phone by opening up the email booking confirmation we sent you. Please have this ready before you reach the guest service point. Our staff will scan the QR code displayed on your screen, and you may need to scroll down the text.

Why do you charge a Remote Booking Fee?

The Remote Booking Fee is a fee for booking your tickets remotely.  It is payable in addition to the price of your tickets.  The amount of the Remote Booking Fee will be displayed during the booking process. To assist you in understanding the amount payable, we will display headline ticket price inclusive of the Remote Booking Fee. We do not levy a Remote Booking Fee for tickets booked at cinema at the Box Office or ATM. If you do not wish to pay the Remote Booking Fee you can still purchase your tickets at the cinema Box Office or ATM where no Remote Booking Fee will apply.

Why are there two sets of prices shown on the pricing page?

If you purchase your tickets remotely (via our website, Filmline, Apps or Facebook) there is an additional Remote Booking Fee applied.  ODEON is committed to working transparently in order to offer guests the best possible cinema experience and a clear booking process – so where a Remote Booking Fee is applicable, this will be shown as part of the upfront cost and displayed on our online pricing pages.

If you do not wish to pay the Remote Booking Fee you can still purchase your tickets at the cinema Box Office or ATM where no Remote Booking Fee will apply.
