I went into this film with some doubts - after all the original spider-man films (with Toby Maguire) where okay (the first one was even great). However I needn't have worried, this was spidy at his best. Gone was the web from the wrists to be replaced by his good old web shooters, using web fluid spidy makes himself. This was a stunning film which genuinely gave you the feeling of what it would be like to web sling through New York. The supporting cast was excellent, the only slight downside being the plot line which was a little convoluted. However this did not detract from the movie to any great degree.

When this movie was first announced, it was Spider-man 4, Tobey Maguire was firmly in place as Spider-man and John Malkovich was set to play Vulture. What happened?

The Amazing Spider-man starts off well, Andrew Garfield is likeable in the lead and the casting was generally very good. It has stayed true to the comics and the backstory involving Peter's parents' disappearnce is well done.

My main gripe here is that ultimately, this movie was completely unnecessary. It was far too soon for a reboot and it brings nothing new to the franchise.

Parts of it seemed rushed, The Lizard was a completely forgettable villain. There was far too much American cheese thrown in, particuluary the crane scene toward the end.

It has it's funny parts, it's sad parts and some of the fight scenes were enteratining but I just wasn't feeling it, and will unfortunately, always find myself comparing it to Raimi's superior trilogy.

My only hope here is that the franchise spawns far better sequels or Spidey finds himself called in by S.H.I.E.L.D to join The Avengers 2
