i was taken by my friend to see it, she had a free ticket from Time Out. well, i am French, so i thought, why not? THE FRENCH RARELY GET IT WRONG ,RIGHT, apart from that dreadful title??
Indeed they don't. NOT knowing much about the storyline made it even more enjoyable as i was discovering as much as the protagonist was, about his new condition.
the cinematographer/director pulled it off big time, as you can imagine it could have been a disaster had it been tedious and awkward to film from "inside" his head, to make you feel and see what he sees. but instead it was endearing and like him, at times we wanted to give up. would I, would YOU? i know i would. but luckily, some are braver and here was his story.
the title does make sense, perfect sense, after seeing this.

Moving true story of Editor of French Elle magazine, who has a stroke. Beautifully filmed version of his book, emphasising the contrast between his locked-in physical condition - the Diving Bell - and his imagination and memories - the Butterfly. TERRIFIC!
