Pleasant but so predictable.

What do you do when the school bully has a grudge against you and two fellow nerds, the headmaster displays mind-numbing indifference to your problem and your dad believes that bullying is good for the soul? Well, you hire a bodyguard, of course. But they don't come cheap...or do they? Drillbit Taylor is not quite what he seems as the three heroes enlist him to look after their interests. This amusing film uses the classic plot in which 'Decidedly Dodgy' becomes 'Good' and eventually triumphs over 'Bad'. The movie is enjoyable albeit somewhat predictable. Indeed, from the first frame, you have a good idea of what the outcome will be and at one stage, I found myself mouthing the script before even the actors did. Still, this was a pleasant comedy that evoked smiles rather than belly-laughs and one I would certainly recommend. But don't expect any surprises...

Absolutely amazing film. Owen Wilson's voice is extremely soothing, i could listen to him all day. The film is very funny and the script is extremely witty. 5/5 10/10, whatever the scores - full marks!
Were you lot watching a different film to me???

The positives are the main two kids and Owen Wilson. The former complement each other well and despite a very average script, do make you rasie the odd smile. The latter is as likeable as ever and he is developing in to a comedy front runner along with the likes of Sandler and Ferrell. That is where the plaudits end though...
The slapstick humour is tiresome and lazy. The film is extremely predictable and barely induces anything more than a light chuckle throughout its duration. There isn't much character development and the main bully victim doesn't have a story so it's hard to feel any thing other than indifference and confusion towards him. The bullies conjure up the only emotion throughout the film and this is one pure hatred which isn't countered well enough with genuine witty scenes. To be compared to the cleverer, more memorable and far superior Superbad is laughable. This is like non alcoholic lager and I'm very much a premium 5 per center myself.
