What´s the plot?
Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play, ‘Doubt’ takes place in and around the Church of St. Nicholas in 1964 New York. Philip Seymour Hoffman stars as Father Flynn, a charismatic priest who is accused by the school’s fierce Principal, Sister Aloysius Beauvier (Meryl Streep) of paying too much attention to a new black student. As Flynn and Sister Aloysius search for the truth, their battle threatens to tear the Church apart.

Very good acting, very interesting story.

Whenever I see a film with Meryl Streep in, I am instantly attracted to it and know that it's going to be worth seeing. It took me a while to adjust to her playing the very stern Sister Aloysius after seeing her rolling around on a rooftop belting out Mamma Mia. But, wow, what a performance....every scene between her and PSH is a joy to behold.

I wish this film had been publicised more as I think it would appeal to a lot of people. So if you are considering going to see it please do, you will not regret it.

Doubt is not usually a film I'd go for but it looked interesting enough from the trailer and I am glad i went to see this film. The strength of this, which I cannot fault is the acting from Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep and Amy Adams is excellent and what made this very watchable. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the story, which lacked big holes. In Doubt you see the conflict between Streep and Hoffman threaten to split the church apart, but the reason for this conflict is vaugely pushed aside what Father Flynn did with the black boy in the chapel. I won't say what it is about in case anyone wants to see this, but it is a delicate and shocking issue, which John Shanley seemed to want to shy away from, which was this movies downfall. Why in my opnion he opted to make this in the first place is puzzling and not to mention the ending where Streep makes a final speech is ridiculous and dosen't represent parralel, with the character of her personality throughout the rest of it. Apart from that this was a decent film, but there was no doubt in my mind it could have been better.
