This is quite simply the funniest film we have ever seen. Bitingly satirical and hugely intelligent, the script team has produced what should be an Oscar-winning piece of rare quality. The second-echelon power plays and committee-driven machinations that switch effortlessly from the mundane to the logic-defying and which form the film’s principal dramatic vehicle are far closer to the truth than many would wish to believe. The cast is universally excellent but Capaldi stands out as a riveting on-screen presence, deploying ultra-high octane (and hugely entertaining) profanity and is, at once, the boss you never want to have but every so often want to be. The scene where US general Gandolfino and his State Department confederate sneak into a child’s bedroom during a cocktail party to count up the number of troops available for the war that lies at the heart of the film’s plot on a My Little Pony calculator (complete with chirps and jingles as the divisions are totalled) is just one of dozens of tear-inducing, laugh-out-loud moments that perfectly blend political satire of the highest order with genuinely dark farce in beautifully crafted comedic moments. Why a film of this quality doesn’t have a far wider screening defies belief and might otherwise smack of political censorship at the highest level. Blair, Campbell, Cheney and Rumsfeld will have found this deeply uncomfortable viewing – for the rest of us, it is simply required.

Funniest movie in years - a classic

See this movie and you won't be disappointed - Hollander's inginue minister, Capaldi's vicious spin doctor and Gandolfini's American general are performance high points but the script, which crackles with wit and humour from start to finish, is the real star. If you like a movie that is full of humour for adults and not teens, then see this movie. Don't go just to see Coogan - his is a sideline character.

UK best at comedy as usual

When it comes to political satire Armando Iannucci is streets ahead of the rest. Never before has spin been so bitingly funny. I was aching with laughter and did not want the tirade of abuse of public figures to end. Capaldi should recieve a ___ing oscar for his portrayal of Alastair Campbell on a diet of raw meat. Whilst the swearing reaches fever pitch, reaching destuctive comic heights rarely seen, one can only hope that Alastair Darling is currently recieving a similar fisting after fetching up a budget as odious as his combination facial hair, hopefully at the hands of ' Scotland's most miserable man'. Enjoy it and take any issues up with your local MP.
