What's the plot?

Based on the classic Marvel comic series first published in 1963, action-packed adventure ‘Marvel Avengers Assemble’ follows Nick Fury, director of international peacekeeping agency S.H.I.E.L.D. and the elite team of superheroes he assembles to deal with a terrifying extra-terrestrial threat to global safety and security.

Enlisting the help of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), The Incredible Hulk, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johanssen), ‘Avengers Assemble’ set forth to save the world from destruction.

It is about Marvel characters so it is a film of fun entertainment, loads of special effects and easy going, one can't expect a serious film.
It is worth seeing and I did not find it too long.

I took two 6 year olds and it was an amazing film, a little bit wordy in places for 6 year olds but the action and adventure really made up for that. Loved it

If you are a die-hard Marvel Comic fan I guess the opportunity to see all your super-heroes in a film is fantastic; however for me this film was a 15min battle scene cunningly dragged out to over 2 hours by the insertion of 127mins of dull directionless dialogue whilst we supposedly (but very superficially) examined the characters and motivations of the superheroes. An alright movie but no more than that for me. I'd wait for the DVD to be in the cheap section of the supermarket rather than pay cinema rates for this.
