What´s the plot?
The story of a teenage girl's coming-of-age, ‘An Education’ is set in 1961 London. Jenny, an intelligent, attractive 16-year-old falls for David, a suave, witty 30-something who even manages to sweet talk her conservative parents into approving of their relationship.

As David introduces Jenny to a new sophisticated world, her long-held plans to go to Oxford begin to change. But can the relationship last, and is David all he appears to be?

I wondered the first time why, despite many people I know and respect,liking it, I couldn't wholeheartedly love this film. The acting is excellent, the two actors playing the father and daughter, deserve special commendation. I saw this film a second time, cringing in the first two thirds of the film at the cringeworthy and cliche representations of the early sixties, which I knew at first hand. The almost paedophilic theme of the older man seducing the younger girl was problematic on many counts. His 'charm' was so transparent I detested the character of the father[Alfred Molina] being taken in by him, an irritating bourgeeouis example, of the male of his period. It is no wonder therefore that this film didn't get the oscars that were predicted for it

Having quickly read the book last week before seeing this film I expected it to be the same BUT this film was really just one chapter from the brilliant book. I also recommend you read the book. What a fantastic interesting life this woman has lead.

How refreshing to watch such great actors and the storyline kept us wanting more.
Well done.

Really enjoyed this film. Poignant, thought-provoking, believable story line, great casting and acting.

Another British triumph - one to treasure. Don't miss it - British films are few and far between and are never shown for long enough! Shame it's not showing in very many Odeons.
