A highly original, unpredictable and superbly acted horror

I wanted to see Orphan at the cinema but I never had the chance until I bought it on DVD for myself last week. I watched it last night and found this brilliant. It was creepy in places and made me jump but I have to say it was more of a thriller than a horror. Saying that though there are some disturbing scenes with gore.
The film is highly intelligent with playing with the audience both psychologically and intellectually. The plot was superbly crafted and intriguing about what this Esther was up to and about her past, which when revealed is shocking making it original. It wasn't just that the acting from three female leads the mother (Vera Farmiga) Esther(Isabelle Fuhrman) and the deaf daughter was superb and added authenticity to the film and made it more gripping to watch.
The only criticism I do have is the husband played by Peter Sarsgaard was a bit slow on the uptake with Esther hurting everyone and his performance though adequate should have been better. Saying that though this is the best horror since Eden lake, which is original, unpredictable and excellently acted.

Worth a watch

Really enjoyed this. While billed as a horror I would say it's more of a suspense thriller with a clever twist. Worth a watch!
Dreadful Cliched Garbage

totally disappointed after it's had good reviews - cliches were cringe (how many times have we seen in horror films closing a bathroom cabinet mirror with big sound and someone standing there).
Characters were dreadfully unrealistic (the dad would rush upstairs to your child if you had psycho in your house, not wonder about with a torch - any parent would agree)
Diabolical.
