‘Nativity’ is a British comedy starring Martin Freeman and Ashley Jenson.

Mr Maddens (Martin Freeman) is a primary school teacher tasked with producing his school’s nativity play, which competes every year with the local private school’s own production. Eager to make an impression, Mr Maddens announces that his ex girlfriend, a Hollywood producer, will be making their nativity play into a film. The problem is, he hasn’t actually spoken to his ex-girlfriend for years. Now the pressure is on to persuade his ex to visit England and stage a blockbuster play.

What a lovely film! Saw it with my husband and 10 year old daughter and we all loved it. The children's acting is amazing and Martin Freeman was his usual brilliant, typical, cynical British bloke. As my husband said, you have to be very cold-hearted not to be charmed by this film. It is sentimental but just stops before it becomes too much and it will definitely become a Christmas classic in our household. I loved Mr Poppy as the classroom assistant and as one myself, I have now found my role model!

An instant classic!!

This film must surely be the most underated for some time. Mixed reviews in the press have probably suppressed interest in favour of the ( in my opinion) charmless clinical synthetic reworking of "A Christmas Carol". By contrast The Nativity was fresh, imaginative, hugely moving and a true family film. The audience were moved to a huge spontaneous round of applause at the end. (The last time I experienced that was in the Capitol cinema in 1969 after a showing of the Albert Finney Musical "Scrooge"!!)
A warm feelgood movie, perfect for the season which I rate in the top 3 films I have seen this year!!
