What's the plot?
In action thriller 'Gangster Squad', the action takes place in 1940s Los Angeles, where real-life gangster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs everything from guns to gambling rackets. When a crack team of incorruptible cops are tasked with breaking his grip on the city, Mickey and his mobsters swear they won't go down without a fight.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), 'Gangster Squad' also stars Ryan Gosling (Drive) and Emma Stone (The Help).

This was stupid. This whole idea was stupid. This could never and would never happen in real life. Sean Penn's over-acting is borderline hilarious, Ryan Gosling is the blandest he's ever been, Emma Stone is just there to be the pretty one, and her and Ryan Gosling share, what, three meaningful scenes?

Inspired by a true story doesn't mean anything nowadays.

I went to this not really knowing what to expect, but being attracted by the genre and the cast. What you get is a very well made and well acted action movie with good attention to period detail. I almost looked on this as a remake of The Untouchables, which I am sure plenty of people will disagree with. The action sequences are well shot and exciting, with convincing performances from the leads and the supporting actors. There are some quite gruesome scenes that I am surprised did not take it up to an 18cert. Highly recommended.

One of the best films I have seen. The acting story and cast are amazing. It is even better knowing it is based on the true story of a gangster called Micky Cohen Who is evil. Sean Penn is fantastic as are the rest of the cast. A real old style gangster film. Great cinematography. Loved it!!!! Dont know how the man behind us was snoring with all the gangster shoot outs ???
