I can honestly say that I never hated this movie, there is no denying that the original trilogy was better and that this has so many flaws. But I love this movie for what it is, sure it's dumb but the action is great, the effects are great and now it is in 3D. I am iffy on the conversion process in general although I have started to lighten up on the subject to clear something up. But with that in mind I was pleasantly surprised by the 3D in this, if you don't go in expecting lightsabers poking you in the eye you can't go wrong.
So underrated!!!

Time has been very kind to The Phantom Menace. The 3D is good but the real impact is how good this film is now it plays in context with the other five. For years this film's sequel was the original Star Wars but now it has sat as the introduction of a saga of six movies since 2005 and what stands out is the action, the politics, Liam Neeson's weighty performance and the reverence for Star Wars lore - lightsabres, R2 D2, the Force etc. etc. As a 40 year old i enjoyed it much more than when i was 27. It also holds a torch to any of today's blockbusters which aren't as well told or exciting. If you want an enlightening nostalgia trip - go see!
