What´s the plot?
‘The Last Station’ tells the story of the final year in the life of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, and his turbulent marriage to the Countess Sofya.
As Vladimir Chertkov, his loyal disciple, attempts to persuade Tolstoy to leave the rights to his work to the Russian people, the relationship between Tolstoy and Sofya worsens.
In his final days, Tolstoy attempts to run away – but Sofya and Chertkov follow. Too ill to continue, Tolstoy takes refuge in a remote railway station where he at last finds the peace he has been longing for.
