Mixed Feelings

Watched this film with my wife-to-eventually-be (long engagement) she found it quite involving whilst I was only mildly interested for most of it and borderline bored during segments. The topic should have been gripping, but for me the mainstream treatment of untypical movie subject matter let it down. On the plus side, it's always nice to see the talents of Kevin Spacey and Lawrence Fishburne on screen. If only the younger cast members had been a match for their seniors. To be fair on them, the script rather pushed them into playing stereotypes. The film has a touch of energy and style, but I felt I was watching events from a distance. Considering the dangerous context of card counting in Vegas casinos, the direction is way too safe. Shame about The Matrix trilogy veteran, he's put on a few pounds and aged somewhat.

Great. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. Casting was good, story interesting and Boston & Vegas looked good.
I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Yeah, like the title says - if you liked Ocean's 11, you'll like this. It's along the same lines, just the take on it is more young, inexperianced college students doing the "fraud" instead of adults. Oh yeah, and it's not fraud - it's legal. Just, some people don't like that they're doing.

If you like "brainy" films, well, this doesn't dissapoint but don't expect to learn how to make millions just by watching what they do. It's a good concept, but they could have gone into the details more - but then, this is designed to appeal to everyone, not just geeks. The few technical tid-bits are well-researched though.

If you're looking for an action film, this will dissapoint - there's only really 2 small scenes of action/violance in the movie. Most of it is about the deception. And if you're looking for steamy love scenes with Kate Bosworth, you're going to be pretty dissapointed too.

However, if you like the intellectual side, the plot of someone beating the system, and the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas and the subterfuge and clever, quick-thinking that goes on behind the scenes, you'll love this.
