What´s the plot?

Marvel’s latest comic book epic, ‘Iron Man’ hits our big screens this summer.

After being captured whilst demonstrating one of his new inventions to the US military, Tony Stark, dubbed ‘Lord of War’ for the press, begins to realise that everything he has created is not for the good of a nation but to hurt and kill innocent civilians. ‘Iron Man’ is created to help those who he put into harm's way.

‘Iron Man’ is the story of Tony Stark, the enigmatic heir to the Stark Enterprises fortune. A driven inventor and executive who seems to have it all. Though he commands his empire by day, by night he secretly becomes ‘Iron Man’, the living embodiment of decades of defence spending and innovation. Strapping on billions of dollars worth of state-of-the-art armour and weaponry each night to fight crime, terrorism and corporate espionage, Tony begins to crack under the strain of his fractured lifestyle and must ultimately confront the one enemy he can never beat -- himself.

Featuring an all star cast including Robert Downey Jr (Chaplin), Terrence Howard (Crash), Gwyneth Paltrow (Sliding Doors) and Jeff Bridges (Tron). The stunning visual effects, witty dialogue and dramatic sequences will keep you strapped to your seat.

If you loved ‘Spiderman’ and ‘X-Men’ you’ll love ‘Iron Man’.

Lame film, flat characters.

There are classic films to which others have to make reference. In the superhero genre you either look at Superman (specially the first film) and to Batman (specially Batman Begins), if you can't take your cues from there, you can as well not bother.

In this film the baddies are cartoonish, cold war style ones (no attempt to explain their motivations), which after having the Joker or the anguished Penguin, simply doesn't cut it.

The use of Gwyneth Paltrow as nothing else but a blond bimbo is specially disgraceful, she frankly should know better, she is an Oscar winner after all.

If you want only special effects then buy a good video game, the effects on this movie are good but contribute precious little to make a good movie.

The only saving grace is the acting of Robert Downing Jr, that tries to build a contradictory character, but the plot is so thin that he fails in spite of his best efforts.

VERY Metal!!

Big, loud and VERY METAL!!...Downey Jr is clearly having a blast with some sharp and witty dialogue and while it may just be an over elaborate set-up for the sequel (hopefully featuring the hinted at War Machine) it IS one of the better comic-book adaptations out there. AND its pretty faithful to the source material, I for one wasn't convinced that Iron Man could be made into a decent movie but this has left me pleasantly surprised.

A lot of fun...

I can tend to be quite a biased person when dealing with comic book adaptions as I grew up reading them and know matter how bad I sometimes know they are, I will never admit it! But I am giving you my genuine opinion when I say that this is a fantastic film. I couldn't agree more with the skepticism surrounding Robert Downey jr. but after seeing the film, I can't think of anyone better. Being a film student I spend a lot of time analysing films from around the globe but after seeing this, it makes you feel like a kid again! 5 stars!, hope this helps. J.

p.s. Stay until the credits are over!!!!
