I actually went to see this film some while ago and have only just got round to reviewing and I'm only doing so because (unlike so many films these days) I thought it was truly lovely and (for once) deserved to be called a 'romance'. I'm not a great fan of Richard Gere (very grey now of course!) but I thought he played his part well as did Diane Lane. I don't think this film will ever be in anyone's 'Top 10' exactly because it is probably not that outstanding. (In many ways, it was similar to so many others in the 'weepy' category - perhaps best compared to something like 'The Bridges of Madison County', although far inferior to this particular film.) However, if you just want to lose yourself for a while and believe in the infinate power of love, go see - you'll not be disappointed but do take the Kleenex!

This was possibly one of the worst films I have ever seen. Despite good material, Gere and Lane lacked ANY chemistry and were completely miscast! I would go so far to say that they actually appeared ill at ease with one another, particularly in the "loving" scenes. In the actors defence they were also let down by the script. Gere definitely needs to stay away from the romance genre, as for Diane Lane, I find her recent performances have lacked charisma and realism. Overall a big disappointment.
A truly wonderful love story
