Good Visuals, Lacking Plot
Disappointing
The story was an old one, but then it was set a very long time ago! It was a story about slavery and oppression, one of the oldest stories but still one of the most topical. Coupled with the promised special effects, this should have been one of Emmerich's most memorable films. But the special effects never really seemed to deliver and the acting, though very good in parts, never really made me feel overly sympathetic to any of the characters. The search for D'Leh's father ended in a bit of anti-climax and surely there was more scope for the sabre-toothed tiger. We were expecting it join in the battle at the end of the film! But - the children really enjoyed it, loved watching the scenes with the mammoths, were impressed by the giant birds - this was why I was generous and gave it three stars.
This is no "2001 Space Odyssey" or "Dances With Wolves". Do not compare it with these great films, it does not stand a chance compared with them.
it was enjoyable
