When a group of aliens come to earth, they are secured in an area of South Africa known as ‘District 9’. Soon a private company, Multi-National United (MNU), is assigned to look after the aliens. However, they are more interested in understanding the extra terrestrials’ weapons than safeguarding their welfare.

As tensions between the aliens and humans increases, an MNU worker - Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) - contracts a mysterious virus, causing his DNA to mutate. Now Wikus holds the key to the alien technology, and becomes the most wanted man on the planet.

If you liked ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ and ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe’, you’ll love ‘District 9’.

Went to see this with my partner, who is more into this kind of film than me. I was hooked from start to finish, unusual film with brilliant acting, never heard of any of the actors before but would love to see more of them! The effects were great and some really funny bits in the film, for me it had it all and can't wait for district 10! Can't understand the one star reviewers, would say to anyone thinking of watching, please don't walk out, see it through cos for me was fab til the end!

District9 provides an alternative to the usual hollywood drivel that is produced for the mass audience. From the very real setting in Johannesburg to the true characters it portrays, you even start to believe the Alien characters are real and excluded from society. Some non thinkers may have walked out from certain screenings but they would typically be the type of audience spoon fed the same plot and expecting a great American city to be the setting and some overpaid Hollywood actor to be the hero.Copley a little known actor successfully portrays the Villan and Hero, a feat no Hollywood actor in recent history has been able to achieve. With undertones of racism and discrimination thrown into the mix Blomkamp tackles the past and current problems facing most nations of the world. The action is well sequenced and the special affects are truly the best the world has to offer. This is more than worthwhile and in time will be a true classic.

The best SciFi action adventure in years. Almost the perfect film. The plot builds beautifully towards a great climax. This a real future classic of the genre.
