Good but not as good as the first

What you get with this film is what you expect of the genre, but what I didn't get was the same level of involvement as I did with the first film. I came away feeling that it lacked 'atmosphere', which boils down to the characters somehow not being convincing or absorbing enough to transport me fully to their world. I felt I was watching it, not IN it.
I'd have to see it again to tell you why I wasn't blown away, but it wasn't good enough to warrant that yet. I wasn't specifically dissatisfied but there was something really satisfying about the first film that this sequel lacks, certainly the CGI is good enough, the script is quite adequate for the genre, yet it was just ok, perfectly watchable and all that and not bad entertainment, and it's still worth seeing.

Well, I didn't really want to see this film. I wasn't all that impressed with the first one but my BF kept insisting! It was OK - I felt the scenes with Luke Goss should have been more frequent as he was the best one in there (action scenes etc)
The 'effects', more to do with make-up then CGI were brilliant, it was the most enjoyable part of the film (you could so tell it was directed by Guillermo Del Toro)
The film could have done with being about 30 minutes shorter and no doubt there will be a 3rd instalment on the way.
As for the comparison with 'The Dark Knight, I dont know how anyone can compare it, they are in TOTALLY different leagues! (with Dark Knight winning HANDS DOWN!!!!)

I went to see this film because I loved Pans Labyrinth. And the creatures are definitely worth going to see this film for. However I did find the story slightly cheesy, but I guess that is to be expected from a Hellboy film.
