What's all the fuss about?

Terrible movie. Pointless plotless violence with an ending that makes everyone look at each other as though they've just been had... which we have. Save your money... and time.

Good, but not worth the awards

This film was quirky and dark as you expect, but it didn't seem to me to be worthy of all the great things said about it. It is bette rthan the most recent Cohen movies but far from their best.

Too much plot, too little characterisation

Enjoyable enough, especially for my wife who had read and enjoyed the book before seeing the film, but to my mind carried all the hallmarks of trying to cram in too much of the book at the expense of making a good film as a film.

Whilst the scenes of them growing up together were nicely handled up until the key plot event thereafter it felt rushed and I for one did not get a clear understanding of why as an adult he behaved in such an unlikely way for a comfortable exile in Califormia. The heroic redemptive scenes back in Afghanistan thus seemed unbelievable as we were given no insight as to why and how he had changed.

So, escapisist enoyable stuff but ultimately as I did not understand the characters motivation I couldn't engaged properly or care much about what happened to him.
