I'm a sci-fi nerd for sure but the immense hype put me off seeing this at first. I finally got convinced to go and absolutely loved it. Yes, there are some slightly silly parts ("Unobtanium?") but that all goes out the window when faced with the sheer beauty of this entirely CG-created world. Stunning.
The motion capture elements (when they are avatars) create phenomenal life-like creatures who you not only believe, but by the end, are totally routing for.
It's part David & Goliath, part Pocahontas and certainly part Fern Gully but as it turns out, that's a really fantastic mix.
I'm dying to see this again in the cinema in all its 3d glory before it stops showing. It's such an immersive experience. I loved every second.
Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana FTW. Seriously, any win. Just throw all the awards at them and see what sticks.
