Bolshoi Ballet Live - The Flames of Paris (Les Flammes de Paris)
Although this new version is directed by Andrei Ratmanski, 'Les Flammes de Paris' was first presented by Vassili Vaynonen at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1933 and won the Stalin prize 15 years later. Set during the French Revolution with the revolutionary people as the central characters, 'Les Flammes de Paris' features more than 130 dancers from the Bolshoi company.
Music is by composer Boris Asafiev based on songs of the French Revolution and on March 31st will be performed by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre under the direction of Pavel Sorokin.
The guillotine blade falls with muffled thuds, the crowd dances frantically and moves dangerously forward. A young peasant cries for his beloved, daughter of the marquis, beheaded before his eyes . . .
