I have seen so many kids films and thought this stood out as brilliant. The effects were great, the story was quick and they didn't over extend the film as they usually do to pad out the story. Would go and see it again it was great. Kids enjoyed it to.

It's hard to rate this film, because it's obviously not designed for all ages. Simple fact is - it's a kids' film, and kids will love it.
There's nothing wrong with the film as such - it's not too predictable like some other children's "classics", but the ending leaves a little to be desired, and despite the trailer's promise of lots of magical faries and such wherever you look, I found it surprisingly lacking in variety.
Sure, it had a lot of mjical elements, but they were mostly the same time and time again, and the evil ogre wasn't really all that menacing. Although I guess he would be to kids.
It's an alright film, just maybe not worth going to the cinema for. My suggestion - buy it when it's out on DVD. Good for a bit of family afternoon fun, but don't bother unless you're watching it just for the kids' sake - watch Shrek instead.

I was expecting this to be another in the long line of cash-in's on childrens novels, but, I was pleasantly surprised. I hadn't read the book so wasn't sure what to expect.
What I got was an exciting and surpirsingly entertaining film with good special effects and a good storyline. Some of the scenes were quite frightening for younger children, but, I think anyone over 8 would be ok as long as they are not too sensitive.
Well worth a watch.
