'Romeo and Juliet' first saw the light of day in January 1938 in Soviet Russia, where it took three years for Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev to get his adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ill-fated lovers to the stage.
The ‘drambalet’ (dramatised ballet) is a masterful adaptation of Shakespeare’s enduring romantic tragedy, and has since performed allover the world.
Prokofiev’s instantly recognisable music underscores the lyrical beauty and passion of the star-crossed lovers. The roles of 'All' Opera Romeo & Juliet' will be played by Italian star Roberto Bolle and the world-renowned American ballet dancer Misty Copeland.
