ODEON says...
When Lee Chandler learns that his brother has suddenly passed away, he has to return to his hometown, ‘Manchester By The Sea’, to help with preparations for the funeral.

Lee left Manchester years ago, and he hates going back there. Upon learning that he’s been made the legal guardian of his nephew Patrick, he’s put in an impossible situation: he can’t bear to stay in Manchester, but he can’t abandon Patrick.

One of the most critically acclaimed films of the year, ‘Manchester By The Sea’ is a devastating drama with a towering performance by Casey Affleck at its core.

... the Sea is a well acted, paced and photographed film. It is an engaging tale of events that punctuate the live ordinary people and their repercussions. I enjoyed it to the end.

just beautiful

Understated, wintery, funny and devastating. It's about grief, community, love and forgiveness but there's no easy answers, no platitudes, no simple narrative conclusion, like life really.

A masterpiece

Reviewer: Movie fanDate: 2017-01-15

A masterpiece performance about ordinary lives that were smashed by the devastating consequences of a human tragedy. Brilliantly directed, superbly acted and delivered with a brutal honesty. Casey Affleck’s acting of a man with a burden of horrific, repressed emotions is incredibly convincing and simply outstanding. The short scene between Lee Chandler (Affleck) and his ex-wife Randi (Michelle Williams) is emotionally unbearable… In comparison with this horrifying pain, all little troubles of your own everyday life become simply insignificant. This film is not for everyone though, but this is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

Over rated

Highly anticipated but mind numbingly boring. Very slow moving, storyline poor. Acting - Casey Affleck - what acting! The only good thing is Lucas Hedges as Patrick, even Michelle Williams is unconvincing. Do not waste your time on this movie.
