Set in the American South before the Civil War, ‘The Birth Of A Nation’ chronicles the life of Nat Turner, who led an armed uprising of slaves against their owners.
Nat was a literate slave who became a preacher, and his owner used to hire him out to other slave plantations to try and pacify unruly slaves. But after witnessing the horrific injustices committed against his people, he took up arms and inspired other slaves to fight in the name of freedom.
Nate Parker writes, directs and stars in ‘The Birth Of A Nation’, an epic drama about slavery and injustice that won acclaim at its Sundance premiere.
