From ballads and bulls to bears and ballet, there’s something for everyone at ODEON this Christmas!
Christmas is about spending quality time with your family and friends and what better way to do that than to share a film together?
Seeing a film together really is the perfect festive experience: sharing a box of popcorn (and maybe some nachos, too), giggling loudly at the same one-liner, chatting afterwards about that shocking twist. Plus, it rescues you from yet another game of Charades!
From family friendly animation to comic-book blockbusters and even world-renowned opera, here’s our rundown of what's on offer this Christmas and a look ahead to January 2018, too.
Paddington 2 - Out Now
Kids climbing the walls? Never fear because Paddington 2 is here. This marmalade sandwich-stuffed sequel is every bit as charming as the original and sees the duffle-coated fuzzball enjoying a bear-raising adventure involving window cleaning, an antique pop-up book and a dastardly Hugh Grant.
Ferdinand - Previews 8th - 10th Dec , Released 16th Dec
Another future family favourite is Ferdinand. Based on Munro Leaf’s much-loved children’s book, it sees a kindly bull being torn from his family following a misunderstanding with a put-out bee. With the help of some wacky new friends, can Ferdinand find his way back home?
If it’s a Christmas movie you’re after, then we’re got a couple of crackers.
The Man Who Invented Christmas - Out Now
Starring Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens as Charles Dickens, The Man Who Invented Christmas is a brilliantly comic biography about the machinations behind the late, great author’s classic festive novel, A Christmas Carol.
The Star - Out Now
In the mood for something a little more traditional? Then don’t miss The Star. This heartwarming animation tells the story of the very first Christmas from a somewhat more furry viewpoint than usual – that of the little donkey who carried Mary to Bethlehem. Aw!
Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Released Dec 14th
Christmas is brilliant at the best of times but Christmas with a new Star Wars movie on the big screen just can’t be beat. Exploding into cinemas on 14 December, The Last Jedi sees the Resistance preparing to do battle with the First Order. Will Rey finally discover who are parents are? Book your ticket now to find out!
Jumanji - Previews 8th 9th 10th Dec, Released 20th Dec
Also offering plenty of bang for your buck is Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This fun follow-up to the 1995 Robin Williams/Kirsten Dunst classic sees a group of bored teenagers getting sucked – literally – into an old-fashioned video game. There, they find themselves in the bodies of four adult avatars, played by The Rock, Jack Black, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart. Cue mayhem!
Pitch Perfect 3 - Released 19th Dec
One film that definitely hits all the right notes this festive season is Pitch Perfect 3. Hilarious from the start, it sees the now graduated Bellas attempting to find their feet in the wider world. But the leap from college life to real life isn’t going well, so when the girls get the chance to re-team for one-last singing competition, they jump at it.
Wonder - Out Now
While Pitch Perfect 3 will make you snigger, Wonder will make you sob… but don’t worry, they’ll be happy tears. Based on R.L. Palacio’s New York Times bestseller, it sees a 10-year-old boy with facial differences attempting to fit in at his new school. Featuring a jaw-dropping performance from young Jacob Tremblay, plus sterling support from Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, you’ll be a big ol’ mess of emotions by the time the credits roll.
Fancy trying something a little different? We’ve got just the thing. Try one of our Event Cinema screenings. From captivating theatre, opera, music and dance, to exhilarating sporting and gaming events, you’ll never miss a moment.
Such as Bolshoi: The Nutcracker is a magical two-hour production of the legendary ballet by the world-famous ballet company or Exhibition On Screen – Cézanne Portraits Of A Life. Coming to ODEON in January, Cézanne is an 85-minute documentary about the much-admired 20th Century artist.
Alternativey try Met Opera – Tosca. A stunning 200-minute performance of Puccini’s gripping, three-act opera, directed by Sir David McVicar.
