6 times Amy Schumer made us snort with laughter

'I Feel Pretty' is a high-concept chortle-fest starring the irrepressible Amy Schumer, the New York actress described by The Telegraph as the “filthiest, funniest woman in comedy”.

In anticipation of what is sure to be one of the year’s most hilarious films, here are six times Schumer made us guffaw out loud…

Warning: Content alert – if you blush easily, this article may not be for you!

1. Comforsleep – Inside Amy Schumer, 2013-Present

Before she hit the Hollywood big-time with Trainwreck and Snatched, Amy Schumer was a force to be reckoned with on the comedy circuit, where her anything-goes brand of entertainment eventually led to her own Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer.

Although gasp-inducingly close to the knuckle at times, this award-winning skit series has proved infallibly on the money since its inception in 2013, as this brilliantly knowing sketch proves.

2. “He’s butt-dialling you!” – Trainwreck, 2015

After hearing a radio interview with Amy Schumer, Knocked Up director Judd Apatow – wowed by her brutally frank and extremely funny answers – decided he had to work with the Manhattan-born comedian and approached her about writing a film script.

The result was 2015’s Trainwreck, a razor-sharp vehicle for Schumer’s no-holds-barred comic talents that she describes as 48 per cent autobiographical.

3. Checking in – Snatched, 2017

In 2017, Schumer persuaded silver-screen icon Goldie Hawn (Overboard, Wildcats, Bird On A Wire) to come out of her 15-year retirement and star in Snatched, an outrageous comedy adventure in which Hawn and Schumer play a dysfunctional mother and daughter.

The plot sees Schumer’s Emily taking her mom on holiday instead of her boyfriend, after the latter abruptly dumps her. In this entertaining scene, the pair arrive at their far-flung hotel, where it quickly becomes obvious (painfully so) that they are ‘not’ well travelled.

4. Not what it looked like – Snatched, 2017

In 2015, Schumer was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People, with Trainwreck co-star Tilda Swinton writing an endorsement that concluded with the words: “She’s an honesty bomb. And she’s coming to get you.”

With her no-filter approach to anything and everything, Schumer is certainly honest, but she’s also – rather refreshingly – not afraid to make herself the centre of the joke, as this “OMG she really went there” scene from Snatched proves.

5. Full spin – I Feel Pretty, 2018

In Schumer’s latest movie, I Feel Pretty – in ODEON cinemas from 4 May – she plays Renee Barrett, a hugely insecure thirty-something who, after taking a bump to the head in spin class, wakes up believing herself to be the most beautiful, capable woman in the world.

Oblivious to the fact that to everyone else she looks exactly the same, Renee’s new-found confidence sees her climbing up the career ladder and getting herself a sweet, caring boyfriend. This too-funny-for-words scene sees the “new” Renee introducing herself to her baffled friends...

6. What’s your number? – I Feel Pretty, 2018

As Renee in I Feel Pretty, Schumer gets to be funny, feminist and frank – in other words, the three tenets she built her career on – all while making us laugh until we cry.

Summing up the film to Ellen DeGeneres on her show, Ellen, Schumer said: “It’s a really funny and sweet movie that I think will make us all feel better.” If the below clip is anything to go by, then she’s not wrong. Prepare to snort with laughter once more!
