About this Film

The Railway Man

Adapted from the bestselling autobiography by Eric Lomax, 'The Railway Man' tells the story of a British soldier haunted by his experience as a prisoner of war during WWII.

Colin Firth takes the lead as Lt. Eric Lomax, a former prisoner of war scarred by his memories of working on the Thai-Burma Railway (a.k.a. the Death Railway). Many years after the end of the conflict, Lomax is still tortured by these traumatic events and - under the guidance of his wife - he decides to face up to his Japanese tormentor.

'The Railway Man' also stars Nicole Kidman and Stellan Skarsgard.

The Railway Man

No tissues needed.. Acting seemed wooden and emotionless, even though the story intrigued me and should have been moving. Casting of actors playing the younger and older Lomax did not tally. Will read the book, hopefully that will have more impact.

Firth and Kidman try hard but it's sluggish and slow. The film is good but not memorable- apart from its ending- which is very powerful. Not really sure how to describe it and review this. Based on a true story. Could've been directed so much better.

This isn't the type of film I normally go to see but I'm glad I did. The story develops gradually through past and present to enable you to understand what Lomax has gone through and is continuing to go through. Excellent and very emotive ending.

Took Hubbie & Parents.Started off like a love story and Hubbie sighed! Then as the film moves between the present and the past, all became clear. This was an emotional & sometimes horrific story and have to admit tears were shed. Well acted.Wonderful
