AKA: Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel
Played by: Margot Robbie
Strengths: Like Batman, Harley doesn’t have any actual superpowers, but as a former psychiatrist she’s (much) smarter than your average antihero. She’s also an expert gymnast, skilled with both a baseball bat and a hammer and, oh yes, clinically insane (she has a hyena as a pet).
Weaknesses: Harley has bad taste in men. Her last boyfriend was Joker...
The low-down: Following the dramatic events of 2016’s Suicide Squad, Harley has cut ties with “Mr J” and is doing her best to enjoy life as a single dame in Gotham City. But that’s easier said than done when everyone wants to kill you, top of the list being nefarious narcissist Roman Sionis!
AKA: Helena Bertinelli
Played by: Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Strengths: She’s lethal with a crossbow – and definitely not afraid to use it!
Weaknesses: Huntress is a shoot-first-ask-questions-later kind of gal. Which often lands her in hot water.
The low-down: Helena is the daughter of high-profile gangster Franco Bertinelli and – for reasons you’ll soon discover – one of Gotham’s most badass vigilantes. With her leather outfit and motorbike, she walks the thin line between right and wrong with a very definite swagger. As Harley tells her when they wind up teaming up to take down Roman: “You are so cool!”
AKA: Dinah Lance
Played by: Jurnee Smollett-Bell
Strengths: Black Canary has a metal-shattering sonic scream – known as her Canary Cry. She’s also a skilled martial artist.
Weaknesses: Like Harley, Dinah’s taste in men leaves a lot to be desired. When we meet her, she’s working for sadistic crime lord Roman Sionis.
The low-down: Conflicted songbird Dinah finds herself on Harley Quinn’s radar after betraying her Mobster boss Roman Sionis. He now wants her head, just as he wants Harley’s. It’s simple: team up or die!
AKA: Detective Montoya
Played by: Rosie Perez
Strengths: Detective Renee Montoya is as shrewd as they come. She also has the weight of the Gotham City Police Department behind her – not that that holds much sway in crime-ridden Gotham.
Weaknesses: A woman in a man’s world, Renee struggles to cope with the boys’ club mentality of the GCPD.
The low-down: Detective Montoya crosses paths with the Birds Of Prey during her ongoing investigation into Roman Sionis’ less-than-appealing work habits. Teaming up with some of Gotham’s most notorious “personalities” isn’t an idea she’s keen on, but she’ll do anything to get her man.
AKA: Batgirl (in the comics)
Played by: Ella Jay Basco
Strengths: Cassandra’s sleight of hand is worthy of the Artful Dodger.
Weaknesses: The cockiness of youth, and Cassandra certainly has no shortage of that. If you’re going to pickpocket someone, it’s probably best if it isn’t the barbarous henchman of one of Gotham’s most wanted bad guys.
The low-down: In the DC Comics, teenage Cassandra is the daughter of two of the planet’s greatest assassins: David Cain and Lady Shiva. Whether she’ll have the same backstory here remains to be seen. Stealing a diamond from Roman Sionis wasn’t her smartest move. But with the Birds Of Prey taking her under their wing, she just might have a chance.
AKA: Mr. Zsasz (in the comics)
Played by: Chris Messina
Strengths: A fan of isometrics, Zsasz is very strong and extremely agile. He’s also remorseless, intelligent and frustratingly unpredictable: in other words, the perfect right-hand man.
Weaknesses: His boss Roman Sionis - he’d do anything for him. Which is bad news for any Bird Of Prey who crosses his path...
The low-down: Trust us, you wouldn’t want to meet this guy in a dark alley. A sadistic murderer who prefers a blade to a gun, his modus operandi includes slitting the throats of his victims and then carving a mark on his body to celebrate the kill. He’d love to add the Birds Of Prey to his gruesome tally!
AKA: Black Mask
Played by: Ewan McGregor
Strengths: Rich, connected and flamboyantly evil, Sionis is a major player in Gotham’s seedy underworld, with a penchant for brutally torturing anyone who displeases him. Birds Of Prey look out!
Weaknesses: He can’t/won’t let go of a grudge, and when you add Harley Quinn into that mix, it's a guaranteed recipe for chaos.
The low-down: Like Bruce Wayne, Roman was born into a family of wealth and breeding. Unlike Bruce Wayne, he used his privilege for evil instead of good, rising up Gotham’s criminal ranks to become one of the most feared super-villains in the city. His nickname comes from his obsession with masks, which dates back to his unhappy childhood. As for his beef with Harley? You know what to do to find out!
