Whisper it quietly, but A Quiet Place: Part II is about to tread softly into ODEON auditoriums.
The first film was a cinematic phenomenon – and an amazingly tense horror movie to boot.
If you somehow missed it (or just fancy a refresher), read our handy recap of the key events.
Plus find out more about the hugely anticipated sequel!
A Quiet Place 2 release date: 3 June 2021
The original A Quiet Place was released in April 2018 by Paramount Pictures.
It was directed by John Krasinski, who also starred and co-wrote the script, alongside Bryan Woods and Scott Beck.
Although packed with terrifying moments, at its heart the film is a moving family drama.
Just one with ravenous aliens!
Told from the point of view of the Abbott family (Evelyn, Lee, Regan, Marcus and Beau), A Quiet Place is set in the aftermath of an apocalyptic event involving sightless extraterrestrial creatures.
To stay alive, humans must make as little noise as possible, as these monstrous aliens, who have almost impenetrable skin and can run at incredible speeds, hunt through sound.
Even the crack of a twig can alert them to your presence. One wrong move and you’re almost definitely a goner!
The A Quiet Place cast was small but sensational and included the real-world husband/wife team of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. Here’s the full rundown...
• John Krasinski as family patriarch Lee Abbott.
• Emily Blunt as Lee’s pregnant wife Evelyn.
• Millicent Simmonds as Regan Abbott, Lee and Evelyn’s deaf, determined daughter.
• Noah Jupe as Marcos Abbott, Millicent’s equally capable younger brother.
• Cade Woodward as Beau Abbott, Lee and Evelyn’s rocket-loving youngest son.
Made for just seventeen million (chicken feed by Hollywood standards), A Quiet Place opened with a monstrous fifty million in the United States, eventually going on to take three hundred and forty million around the world (thanks to incredible word of mouth).
And the critics loved it too. The film won 33 awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Emily Blunt at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
If you did see it, you’ll likely remember it as a singular cinematic experience. So quiet were the events on screen, people stopped munching on their popcorn. Some even held their breath – especially during ‘that’ infamous bathtub scene.
Quite a bit actually – and it’s all juicy stuff. The film is set in the direct aftermath of the original. We know this because Evelyn’s foot is still bandaged (remember that nail? Ouch!). But there will also be flashbacks to the very beginning of the crisis, when the alien creatures initially invaded.
Krasinski described the first film as “a love letter” to his kids, and while this sequel will take a more expansive approach (as the Abbotts leave the safety of their sand trails), you can expect the idea of family to be front and centre once again.
We’re also getting a new character in Cillian Murphy’s Emmett. “For me, Emmett represents where the heart of the world lies right now, which is: finally feeling like they’ve all given up,” said the popular Irish actor.
The first film was packed with them and you can bet your house this one will be too.
With their farmhouse fortress penetrated, the Abbott family must search for a new home.
But, as the official synopsis warns, ‘they quickly realise that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path’.
We’re so intrigued...
